Stephanie Hernandez

External Affairs Director

Stephanie Hernandez (External Affairs Director) joined CISLA in 2024. She is in charge of advocacy and policy efforts. She will help amplify CISLA’s role in advocating for the students, families, schools, and communities we serve.

Stephanie is an experienced advocate with a background in labor union organizing. Her career began at SEIU, where she became an expert in workers' rights and grassroots mobilization. Following her time at SEIU, she transitioned into public health advocacy, where she played a key role in passing three anti-flavored tobacco ordinances, including those in LA County, Culver City, and Redondo Beach.

In her recent role at the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, Stephanie led advocacy efforts, empowering parents, students, and school leaders to engage in policy change for educational equity. She managed strategic partnerships and led the Policy Advisory Board and the Student Equity Champions program. Her focus was on amplifying the voices of vulnerable families in local and state policy decisions while championing issues such as digital equity, equitable funding, and family engagement.

Outside of work, she is a proud mom to a soon-to-be 8-year-old and enjoys traveling.
